Almost all cosmetic and skincare companies have introduced new technologies to scan your skin with your phone. Most of these applications are related to the products for sale. The fundamental purpose is to sell. We cannot deny that the applications are usually entirely accurate if light intensity, a clean camera, clean skin, among others, are taken into account.

The truth is that it is vital to perform periodic examinations of your skin to make sure that it is healthy and that you take the necessary precautions to extend its freshness. In a perfect world, it sounds lovely to know that you are healthy. But the reality is very different as most people don’t even think about protecting their skin from environmental effects.

The younger ones have nothing to worry about because their skin looks fresh and healthy unless there is an allergy or acne problem. Therefore, this is not part of the daily routine.

Aging is happening

Then we begin to notice the signs of early aging. By the way, we already know that 80% is due to environmental impact and not to senescence’s natural process. This time is where we want to engage and reverse all that damage. We go to all kinds of treatments, and we try all the formulas that promise to restore elasticity and freshness to your skin. Countless brands and even home remedies pass through our dressing table. Some go to extreme measures with Botox injections or cosmetic surgery, among others.

However, there are many other problems, not just wrinkles, that should concern us with our skin’s care and examination. Skin cancer and other skin manifestations could become an irreversible disease of the largest organ in the body.

Here’s how to do a skin exam in the comfort of your home to find skin cancer early. Examine your skin all over your body and watch for changes over time. By checking your skin regularly, you will learn what is normal for you.

The best time to check your skin is after a shower or bath. Use a full-length mirror and a hand mirror in a bright room. If you find anything unusual, immediately see your doctor.

Follow these steps to control yourself from head to toe:

  1. Look at your face, neck, ears, and scalp. You may want to use a comb or blow-dryer to move your hair so you can see better. It can be challenging to check your scalp yourself, so you may want to have a family member or friend review your hair.
  2. Look at the front and back of your body in the mirror. Then raise your arms and look at your left and right sides.
  3. Bend your elbows. Look carefully at the fingernails, palms, forearms (including the bottom), and upper arms.
  4. Check the back, front, and sides of your legs. Also, check the skin on the buttocks and genital area.
  5. Sit down and closely examine your feet, including the toenails, the soles of the feet, and the spaces between toes.
  6. Learn where your moles are and how they usually look and feel. Check if there is something different, like:
  • a new mole (that looks different from your other moles)
  • a new scaly red or darker colored spot that may be a little raised
  • a change in the size, shape, color, or feel of a mole
  • a sore that does not heal
  • a new firm, flesh-colored lump.

Write down the dates of your skin self-exams and take notes on how your skin looks on those dates. You may find it helpful to take photos to help verify changes over time.

Recently, technology has made it possible to obtain a high definition image in 3D. The 3D Skin Analysis System opens up a unique opportunity to contribute to the early detection of skin damage that could progress or indicate danger.
The use of structured light scanning technology makes it possible to 3D scan the human body with all its anatomical complexities for a wide range of healthcare applications, including facial augmentation and reconstruction, plastic surgery, and more.

3D facial scans have become indispensable tools for medical personnel, estheticians, and beauty coaches. In a recent study, researchers used a Skin Analysis Device to scan a human face to examine the effect of sitting, standing, and supine positions on facial soft tissue.

Before introducing 3D scanning, medical personnel had to rely on conventional techniques to obtain the required measurements of the human face. This method was unreliable and time-consuming, leaving room for errors.

Conclusion

Its usefulness goes much further, as its use by trained personnel in the community, including salons, barbershops, and community health services, could reduce skin cancer and other skin diseases.

It’s definitely important to take care of your skin no matter what your age, skin tone, or family history. No one wants to age prematurely, but even more scary are skin cancers and melanomas.

It is important to do self-checks, but there is no substitute for having a medical professional do an exam. It’s much better to catch something in a “pre-cancerous” stage and deal with it early than to “wait and see” if there are changes.

Thanks for the reminders to everyone of how important this is!

Thank you for taking the time to leave this review Aly, I’m glad it’s resonating with others. It is essential to take care of our skin!

I appreciate your feedback on self-checks and medical exams. We want everyone to be aware of protecting themselves from skin cancer, but there is no substitute for a professional exam. If we were to offer exams in our practice, we would make sure that these are done by qualified professionals who have been trained in dermatology and other relevant fields so they can provide the best advice possible.
