You can find all types of personalization to your individual tastes these days, from how you like your coffee to the features you want in your car to customized shopping experiences. We’re all unique, so why not provide products and service options for that uniqueness?

Personalization may be the future of retail and customer service, and we at Dr. Gala Health Coaching LLC believe it’s also the future of healthcare. Each individual is unique, yet for too long, healthcare has provided a one-size-fits-all approach that actually doesn’t fit anyone. It fails to provide the long-term wellness and lifestyle choices that each individual needs specifically for them.

We know that our clients are more than just names on a chart. We also know that the path to truly personalized healthcare comes through knowing a person’s genetic makeup — their individualized code that forms the blueprint for how their systems function best, right down to the cells. Since having that blueprint is the key to optimal health and wellness, here are five reasons to get a genetic test today.

1. Clarity into Who You Are

Knowing your genetic code, and specifically what genetic variations you have, can help us better understand how your body responds to the world around you, to certain foods you eat, certain activities you do, and more. It can give us better clarity into things like how your body handles inflammation, or if weight loss will be a challenge for you. Better clarity into how your cells and systems work, how your body processes nutrients, and how it burns energy is the start of personalized health.

We saw this firsthand with Vicky

“Since I was 13, I suffered from severe migraines. I realized, whatever I’m doing is not working. I need to try something else. When I had my genes tested, it made so much sense. You get information that is so personalized, and so specific. It’s a recipe created for you. These days, life is very different. I can actually feel the change.”

2. A Focus on Root Causes

Having clarity into how your body uniquely functions is the first step, and with that clarity, we can create a more focused approach to your healthcare. For example, if your genes tell us that your cells have a hard time getting rid of toxins, then we can look at making food and lifestyle choices to minimize the introduction of toxins into your body. By having the blueprint of your genetic makeup, we can start building the right foundation. We can also treat illness and disease at the root of the issue instead of just treating downstream symptoms.

We saw this in the way we helped Najwa.

“I was diagnosed with a degenerative condition. It was merely diagnosed by the symptoms I was presenting, and it seemed to be a lot of guesswork. My lifestyle now is addressing particular aspects of my genes that are misfiring. I got a greater understanding of my make up. Your life can improve dramatically, even to the extent that it’s better than it was when you thought you were healthy.”

3. Better Food Choices

One of the most impactful changes a person can make on their health is changing what they eat and the way they eat. But the age-old question has been, What diet is best for me? The best diet is the one that aligns with your genetics. Insights into your genetics can determine if you need more of certain vitamins, or if you need to cut out foods that cause you inflammation, or if your body holds fat easily, or if you need to cut down on your caffeine intake.

Because of their genetics, we were able to provide better food choices to Arina.

“I’ve never been petite. I’d go on a diet, lose weight, but I couldn’t maintain it. I always thought my willpower (or lack of it) was to blame. Only now, after my 3X4 experience, do I know there were lots of underlying reasons for my body’s resistance to weight loss. Since addressing them, I’ve lost 20 kilograms. This is the new me.”

4. More Targeted Screening

In addition to understanding how your systems work best and how to tailor lifestyle and food choices to your unique body, genetics can also help us better understand the root causes of illness. By doing so, we can choose better options for more targeted screening and testing. Instead of generic or blanket testing that may leave us searching for how to help you, genetics can help us pinpoint exactly where to look — like having a map to where we need to go, instead of just guessing.

We were able to help provide better screening to Chrystal.

“My test results showed that I have what is known as the ‘buffet’ gene as well as the ‘snacking’ gene meaning I struggle to register when I am full and I have a need to eat more often (lucky me!), so when it comes to weight loss or maintaining my weight I need to be aware of these factors.”

5. More Precise Supplements

Similarly, knowing your genetic makeup can help us find the right supplements for your genes. For example, if we know that your genes store iron too well, we can recommend the right intervention, instead of a trial-and-error process that would happen without those genetic insights. Once again, knowing a person’s genetic makeup, and how their genes affect their systems, metabolism, cardiovascular health, and more, allows us to make more personalized and customized recommendations for you.

We saw this when we were able to help Anita.

“I have been struggling with scalp psoriasis for many years and while I’ve found things that have helped to ease my symptoms temporarily, I’ve never been able to treat it super effectively. My test results showed that my body isn’t the best at handling inflammation which can be provoked by common dietary irritants such as dairy, soy, or gluten.”

Genetic Testing is Personalized Healthcare

The world is becoming more personalized — so why shouldn’t healthcare? Genetic testing is just the beginning of a journey towards discovering how your body optimally works, and what food and lifestyle choices can give you the wellness and longevity you’re looking for.

I’m being very lightweight and skinny and after trying lots of different diets still have not able to get any positive results so far. Some doctors prescribed me for a whole body checkup and after doing the same they do not find any major issue with my organs and everything is ok. And if I try to take high protein foods then my appetite is unable to handle it so is there any sense in going for a Genetic test?  I’m 36 years and my weight is 52 Kg and my height is 155 cm.

      Hi, Preetam!

I appreciate your comment and for sharing your situation. I definitely would recommend doing a 3×4 genetic test, for it will be critical to identify the pathways that are highly impacted by your genes’ expressions. If you would like to know more about it, you are more than welcome to check here

As we all know Genes are found in chromosomes and are made up of DNA. We inherit genes from our parents. Our gene structure dictates how our body grows and regulates. When genes are normal, they work properly. When genes are abnormal or damaged, they can lead to disease. These are called gene mutations, or changes. Some changes run in families.. But one question I would like to get an answer to and I know a lot person would like to know is what are the side effects or knowing who I really am as a result of a genetic test?

Hey, Nelson David! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. You did go through the whole picture on how genes work and how their expression may affect our health and cause disease. There are two ways genes are related to diseases and conditions: high penetration genes, which are specifically related to specific diseases, and that may predict to some extent whether you’ll develop or not that condition, and low penetration genes, which express and variate under certain conditions such as lifestyle, exposure to environmental factors, diets, medications, and so on. The latter is our primary focus, and the only side effect it has is a good one because your DNA will allow you to make more informed decisions and lead a smarter, healthier life.
